Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter with water. Once fully melted, bring just to a light boil, then remove from heat.

Pour the hot butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until combined.

Add the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until the batter is smooth and well blended.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan, melt the butter with milk over medium heat.

Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.

Pour the warm frosting over the cake while it is still slightly warm, spreading it evenly.

Let the cake cool completely before slicing.
