Old-School Pecan Dandy Do’s are classic, buttery drop cookies packed with crunchy pecans and cozy, nostalgic flavor. Soft in the center, lightly crisp at the edges, and sweet without being too much—these are the kind of cookies Grandma kept in a tin on the counter.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups chopped pecans
Instructions
Step 1: Prep
Preheat oven to 180°C. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2: Cream Butter & Sugar
In a large bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 3: Add Eggs
Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla.
Step 4: Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
Step 5: Fold in Pecans
Gently stir in the chopped pecans.
Step 6: Bake
Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them apart.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
Step 7: Cool
Let cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
Tips
Do not overbake—these cookies should stay soft in the middle. Toasting the pecans lightly before mixing adds extra depth of flavor.
