4-Ingredient Water Pie
This old-fashioned Water Pie is a true classic from simple times—made with just a few pantry ingredients, yet surprisingly rich, buttery, and slightly custardy.
Ingredients
- 1 unbaked pie crust
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 4 tablespoons butter (cut into small pieces)
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
Place the unbaked pie crust into a pie dish and crimp the edges as desired.
Pour the water directly into the pie crust—yes, just plain water.
Sprinkle the sugar and flour evenly over the water. Do not stir.
Drop small pieces of butter across the surface.
Carefully place the pie in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 175°C (350°F) and continue baking for another 30 minutes.
The filling will thicken slightly and form a light, glossy top.
Remove from the oven and let the pie cool completely. It will set more as it cools.
Serving Suggestions
Serve at room temperature or chilled. You can dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired.
This pie is simple, nostalgic, and surprisingly delicious—proof that great desserts don’t need fancy ingredients.
