Southern 4-Ingredient Cheddar Cheese Straws
These classic Southern cheddar cheese straws are crispy, buttery, and packed with bold cheesy flavor. Made with just four simple ingredients, they’re the perfect snack or appetizer—great for holidays, parties, or anytime you want something savory and crunchy.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter (softened)
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until smooth and well blended, ensuring the cheese is evenly distributed throughout the butter.
Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing continuously until a soft dough forms. The dough should be firm but pliable. If it feels too dry, you can add a teaspoon of water at a time until it comes together.
Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. This step gives the cheese straws their classic ridged shape.
Pipe the dough into long strips (about 3–4 inches) directly onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each straw.
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown and the straws are crisp.
Remove from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Serving Suggestions
Serve as a snack, appetizer, or alongside soups and salads. They also pair perfectly with dips or charcuterie boards.
These cheddar cheese straws are crisp, cheesy, and full of Southern charm—simple ingredients turned into an irresistible treat.
