How to Cut a Pineapple into Pineapple Boats

Want a beautiful way to serve fresh pineapple? Turning a whole pineapple into pineapple boats is easier than it looks—and it makes a gorgeous presentation for fruit salads, grilled pineapple, desserts, or tropical drinks.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 ripe pineapple
  • Sharp chef’s knife
  • Small paring knife
  • Spoon or pineapple corer

How to Cut a Pineapple into Boats

1. Wash the pineapple
Rinse the pineapple well and pat it dry.

2. Cut off the top
Place the pineapple on its side and carefully cut off the leafy crown. Keep it aside if you want to use it as decoration.

3. Cut the pineapple lengthwise
Stand the pineapple upright and cut it straight down through the center. For smaller boats, cut each half in half again lengthwise.

4. Remove the core
The center core is tough and fibrous. Use a small knife to carefully cut it away from each section.

5. Separate the flesh from the skin
Run a sharp knife along the inside of the pineapple skin, following the curve while keeping the skin intact.

Then make several cuts across the flesh to create bite-sized pieces.

6. Scoop out the pineapple
Use a spoon or your knife to gently loosen the pieces and remove them from the skin.

For a beautiful presentation, you can leave the pineapple pieces sitting inside the shell rather than removing everything.

7. Arrange and serve
Spread the pineapple pieces slightly apart or arrange them neatly inside the shell.

You now have a natural pineapple boat ready to fill with fresh fruit, shrimp, chicken salad, ice cream, or your favorite tropical dessert. 🍍🌴

Quick Tip

For the cleanest pineapple boats, don’t cut all the way through the skin when separating the flesh. Leaving the shell intact is what gives you that beautiful boat shape.

Perfect for: fruit platters, summer parties, BBQs, tropical desserts, and Instagram-worthy serving ideas. 🍍✨
