When I was a kid, I always asked my mom to make this recipe

Italian Sub Squares

Ingredients

IngredientQuantity
Refrigerated Crescent Roll Dough2 cans (8 oz each)
Deli Ham8 slices
Hard Salami8 slices
Pepperoni12 slices
Provolone Cheese8 slices
Sliced Banana Peppers or Mild Pepper Rings½ cup
Red Onion (thinly sliced)¼ cup
Roma Tomatoes (thinly sliced)1–2
Italian Dressing3 tbsp
Dried Oregano1 tsp
Shredded Mozzarella (optional)½ cup
Egg (beaten, for brushing)1
Sesame Seeds (optional)1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Bottom Layer:
Roll out one can of crescent roll dough and press it into the bottom of the baking dish, sealing any seams.
  3. Layer the Fillings:
    • Start with ham, then salami, pepperoni, and provolone cheese.
    • Add onion, tomato slices, and banana peppers evenly over the top.
    • Drizzle with Italian dressing and sprinkle with oregano.
    • (Optional: Add shredded mozzarella for extra gooeyness.)
  4. Top Layer:
Unroll the second can of crescent roll dough and lay it carefully over the top, sealing the edges.
  5. Finish:
Brush the top with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  6. Bake:
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted inside.
  7. Cool and Slice:
Let it rest for about 10 minutes before cutting into squares. This helps the layers set.

Pro Tips

  • Serve warm or at room temperature — both are delicious!
  • Add a few slices of provolone or mozzarella on top before baking for extra cheesiness.
  • For a spicy kick, use hot capicola or spicy Italian dressing.
  • These squares reheat beautifully — perfect for meal prep or packed lunches.
