If you need a last-minute appetizer that looks impressive but takes almost no effort, this puff pastry bite is your new go-to. With just a handful of ingredients and minimal prep, you can make a golden, flaky, crowd-pleasing snack in under 20 minutes.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, gruyère, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • Optional toppings:
    • Sliced jalapeños
    • Everything bagel seasoning
    • Sun-dried tomatoes
    • Olives
    • Herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano)

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Heat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the Puff Pastry

  • Unfold the puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface.
  • Cut into squares (about 2×2 inches) or any shape you like.

3. Add the Cheese

  • Place a small pinch of shredded cheese in the center of each piece.
  • Add any optional toppings.

4. Brush with Egg Wash

  • Beat the egg and lightly brush the edges of the pastry pieces to help them brown beautifully.

5. Bake

  • Arrange squares on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until puffed and deeply golden.

6. Serve

  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
