Sunday-Table Comfort Italian Stromboli

This Italian stromboli is a comforting, crowd-pleasing dish filled with layers of savory meats, melty cheese, and classic Italian seasonings, all wrapped in golden baked dough. It is perfect for Sunday dinners, game nights, or sharing with family and friends.

Ingredients

Refrigerated pizza dough 1 pound
Olive oil 2 tablespoons
Garlic, minced 2 cloves
Italian seasoning 1 teaspoon
Dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon
Deli pepperoni slices 1 cup
Deli salami slices 1 cup
Deli ham slices 1 cup
Shredded mozzarella cheese 2 cups
Grated Parmesan cheese 1/4 cup
Egg 1 large
Water 1 tablespoon

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2: Prepare the dough
Lightly flour a clean surface. Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle, about 12 by 16 inches. Make sure the dough is even so it bakes uniformly.

Step 3: Season the dough
In a small bowl, mix the olive oil and minced garlic. Brush this mixture evenly over the surface of the dough. Sprinkle the Italian seasoning and oregano evenly on top.

Step 4: Add the fillings
Layer the pepperoni, salami, and ham evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the meats, then finish with the grated Parmesan cheese.

Step 5: Roll the stromboli
Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log, keeping the filling inside as you go. Pinch the seam and ends firmly to seal.

Step 6: Prepare for baking
Place the stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the top of the stromboli with the egg wash for a golden finish.

Step 7: Vent the dough
Use a sharp knife to cut several small slits across the top of the stromboli. This allows steam to escape while baking.

Step 8: Bake
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and fully cooked through. If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during the last 10 minutes.

Step 9: Rest and serve
Remove from the oven and let the stromboli rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This helps the cheese set and makes slicing easier.

Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Tips
You can customize the filling with cooked sausage, mushrooms, or bell peppers.
