Southern Pecan Log

This Southern Pecan Log is a classic, old-fashioned treat straight from Southern kitchens—sweet, creamy, and generously coated in crunchy pecans. With a rich, fudge-like center and a nutty exterior, it’s perfect for holidays, gifting, or anytime you want a taste of nostalgic comfort.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2½ cups finely chopped pecans (divided)

Instructions

  1. Make the creamy base
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth, creamy, and fully blended. This step is key for a rich, lump-free center.
  2. Sweeten and flavor
Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract and salt until the mixture becomes thick, smooth, and slightly firm—similar to soft fudge.
  3. Add pecans
Stir in ½ cup of the chopped pecans, mixing gently so they’re evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  4. Shape the log
Lay a sheet of plastic wrap or parchment paper on the counter. Spoon the mixture onto it and shape into a log about 8–10 inches long, smoothing the sides as you go.
  5. Coat with pecans
Spread the remaining chopped pecans evenly on a flat surface. Roll the log gently in the pecans, pressing lightly so they adhere and fully coat the outside.
  6. Chill and set
Wrap the pecan-coated log tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to slice cleanly.
  7. Slice and serve
Cut into rounds and serve chilled or slightly softened at room temperature.

✨ Tip: For extra Southern flair, serve with vanilla wafers, graham crackers, or butter cookies. This pecan log also makes a beautiful homemade gift when wrapped in parchment and tied with twine.
