Unlike classic dry sausage balls, this version stays extra moist and creamy thanks to the cream cheese and tomatoes. No complicated steps, no fancy equipment—just mix, roll, and bake.
Ingredients (Makes about 30–36 sausage balls)
- 450 g (1 lb) pork breakfast sausage (regular or spicy)
- 225 g (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 can (283 g / 10 oz) Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies, well drained
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
2. Mix the Base
In a large bowl, combine the sausage and softened cream cheese. Mix thoroughly using clean hands or a sturdy spoon until fully blended and smooth.
3. Add Remaining Ingredients
Add the shredded cheddar, drained Rotel tomatoes, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix until everything is evenly distributed and a soft dough forms.
Tip: Make sure the Rotel is very well drained to prevent soggy sausage balls.
4. Shape
Roll the mixture into 2.5 cm (1-inch) balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each.
5. Bake
Bake for 22–25 minutes, or until golden, cooked through, and lightly crisp on the outside. The internal temperature should reach 74°C (165°F).
6. Cool Slightly & Serve
Let the sausage balls rest for 5 minutes before serving. This helps them firm up while staying juicy inside.
