Peanut Butter Bits Cracker Candy (Christmas Crack / Saltine Toffee)

This Peanut Butter Bits Cracker Candy, often called Christmas Crack, is the ultimate sweet-and-salty treat that’s impossible to resist! Crunchy crackers topped with buttery toffee, creamy peanut butter, and melted chocolate — it’s simple to make and perfect for holidays, parties, or just a cozy movie night snack.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips (or creamy peanut butter)
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped peanuts or pretzel bits (optional, for topping)
  • Pinch of sea salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, and place the saltine crackers in a single, tight layer.
  2. Make the Toffee:
In a medium saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture begins to boil. Continue boiling for 3–4 minutes until thickened and glossy.
  3. Pour and Bake:
Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the crackers, spreading it gently with a spatula to coat. Bake in the oven for 5 minutes, until the toffee is bubbling.
  4. Add Peanut Butter Layer:
Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle peanut butter chips over the hot toffee. Let them melt for about 2 minutes, then spread evenly with a spatula.
  5. Add Chocolate:
Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of the warm peanut butter layer. Allow them to soften, then spread into a smooth, glossy layer.
  6. Top and Cool:
If desired, sprinkle chopped peanuts, pretzel bits, or a pinch of sea salt on top for extra crunch and flavor. Let cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then transfer to the refrigerator for about 1 hour to fully set.
  7. Break and Serve:
Once firm, break the candy into rustic pieces and enjoy!

Pro Tips:

  • Use graham crackers or club crackers for a slightly sweeter base.
  • For extra flavor, swirl a bit of white chocolate on top before cooling.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
  • These make great homemade holiday gifts — just wrap them in festive bags or boxes!
