Ooey Gooey Bars

Ooey Gooey Bars are a classic, ultra-soft dessert with a buttery crust and a rich, creamy top layer. They come together easily and bake into a sweet, tender bar with a signature gooey center that everyone loves.

Ingredients

For the crust

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the gooey topping

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prepare the oven and pan

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

2. Make the crust

In a mixing bowl combine the cake mix, melted butter, and one egg. Stir until a thick dough forms.
Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

3. Make the topping

In another bowl beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the remaining two eggs and continue mixing until creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Beat until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.

4. Assemble

Pour the cream cheese mixture over the crust and spread it evenly to the edges.

5. Bake

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. The edges should be set while the center stays soft and gooey. Avoid overbaking.

6. Cool and serve

Let the bars cool completely before slicing. This helps them firm up while keeping the gooey texture inside.
