These Old-Fashioned Family Churro Snacks are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and coated in warm cinnamon sugar—just like the classic fair-style treat, made simply at home. Perfect for sharing with family, movie nights, or weekend treats.
Ingredients
1 cup water
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp butter
¼ tsp salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg
½ tsp vanilla extract
Oil, for frying
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
½ cup sugar
1½ tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
Make the dough
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, sugar, butter, and salt. Bring to a gentle boil. Add the flour all at once and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a smooth ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
Cool and enrich
Remove from heat and let the dough cool for 5 minutes. Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until the dough is smooth and glossy.
Heat the oil
Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
Pipe and fry
Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe short strips directly into the hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
Drain and coat
Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain briefly on paper towels. While still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Serve
Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.
✨ Tip: Serve with chocolate sauce or caramel dip for an extra-special family treat.
