Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the meat is browned and crumbly.
    Add garlic, salt, and pepper, and cook for another minute. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Mix the Sauce:
    In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
    Stir in ½ cup of cheddar cheese for a creamy base.
  4. Assemble the Casserole:
    • Layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly on the bottom of the baking dish.
    • Spoon half of the beef mixture over the potatoes.
    • Pour half of the soup mixture on top and spread evenly.
    • Repeat layers with the remaining potatoes, beef, and soup mixture.
    • Sprinkle 1½ cups of cheddar cheese over the top and dust lightly with paprika.
  5. Bake:
    Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 50 minutes.
    Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Cool & Serve:
    Let the casserole rest for about 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
