Maple Twist Cookies

Maple twist cookies are soft, buttery cookies with a warm maple flavor and a beautiful twisted shape. They are perfect for fall baking, holiday trays, or anytime you want a comforting homemade cookie with a touch of sweetness.

Ingredients

Unsalted butter, softened 1 cup
Granulated sugar 1/2 cup
Brown sugar, packed 1/2 cup
Large egg 1
Pure maple syrup 1/3 cup
Maple extract 1 teaspoon
All-purpose flour 2 1/2 cups
Baking powder 1 teaspoon
Salt 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.

Step 2: Cream butter and sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. This takes about 2 to 3 minutes and helps create a tender cookie texture.

Step 3: Add wet ingredients
Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated. Pour in the maple syrup and add the maple extract. Mix until smooth and evenly combined.

Step 4: Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 5: Make the dough
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix just until a soft dough forms. The dough should be smooth and slightly tacky but not sticky.

Step 6: Shape the twists
Take about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a rope about 6 inches long. Fold the rope in half and twist the two strands together gently. Place the twisted dough on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.

Step 7: Bake
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden and the tops are set but still pale.

Step 8: Cool and serve
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips
For extra maple flavor, drizzle cooled cookies with a simple maple glaze made from powdered sugar and maple syrup.
Do not overbake; these cookies should stay soft.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
