Baked Hot Dog Burnt Ends are a fun, budget-friendly twist on classic BBQ burnt ends. Hot dogs are sliced, seasoned, baked, and caramelized in a sweet and smoky sauce until they become sticky, crispy, and irresistibly flavorful. They make an amazing appetizer, party snack, or easy dinner option.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs hot dogs (about 16 standard hot dogs)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup and set a wire rack on top.
- Slice each hot dog into 1½ā2-inch pieces. Pat them dry with a paper towel to help them brown better.
- Add the hot dog pieces to a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Toss to coat.
- In a separate small bowl, mix brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Sprinkle this seasoning mix over the hot dogs and toss until evenly coated.
- Spread the hot dogs in a single layer on the wire rack. Bake for 20ā25 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until they start to brown and crisp around the edges.
- In a clean bowl, mix the BBQ sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard.
- Transfer the baked hot dog pieces into the sauce and stir until thoroughly coated.
- Return the coated hot dogs to the baking sheet (no rack needed now) and spread them out evenly.
- Bake for another 15ā20 minutes, stirring once, until the sauce thickens and caramelizes and the hot dogs develop deep browned edges.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. They will thicken and get even stickier as they rest.
