Easy Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

Classic Southern comfort in every bite

Easy Sausage Gravy and Biscuits is the kind of hearty, stick-to-your-ribs breakfast that never goes out of style. Crumbly sausage simmered in rich, peppery gravy and spooned over warm, flaky biscuits—simple ingredients, big comfort, and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Sausage gravy
1 pound breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
¼ cup all-purpose flour
2½ cups whole milk
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Biscuits
1 can refrigerated biscuits or homemade biscuits, baked

Instructions

Begin by cooking the sausage. Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the sausage. Break it into small crumbles using a spoon or spatula. Cook for 7–9 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sausage is fully browned and no pink remains.

Sprinkle the flour evenly over the cooked sausage. Stir continuously for 1–2 minutes to coat the sausage and cook out the raw flour taste. The mixture should look thick and slightly paste-like.

Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly. Scrape the bottom of the pan to loosen any browned bits, as these add flavor. Continue stirring as the gravy thickens, about 4–6 minutes.

Season the gravy with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If the gravy becomes too thick, add a splash of milk and stir until it reaches your desired consistency.

While the gravy finishes, bake the biscuits according to package or recipe directions until golden and fluffy.

To serve, split the warm biscuits in half and place them on plates. Spoon the hot sausage gravy generously over the top and serve immediately.
