Dandy-Do Cookies

Dandy-Do Cookies are a cheerful vintage favorite—soft, lightly spiced cookies rolled in cinnamon sugar for a sweet, crackly finish. They’re simple, cozy, and perfect for sharing with a cup of tea, coffee, or milk.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt

For rolling

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oven and pans
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.
  2. Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. This creates a soft cookie texture.
  3. Add wet ingredients
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. Mix dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Form the dough
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
  6. Roll in cinnamon sugar
In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Roll tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls, then roll each ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Bake
Place dough balls on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and the tops are lightly crackled.
  8. Cool and serve
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

✨ Tip: For extra softness, slightly underbake the cookies and let them finish setting as they cool.
