Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prep the onions:
Peel and thinly slice the onions. Separate them into rings and set aside.
  2. Make the batter:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the milk gradually and stir until smooth — the batter should be thick but pourable.
  3. Add onions:
Stir the sliced onions into the batter, coating them well.
  4. Fry:
Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the hot oil and flatten slightly.
Fry until golden brown on both sides (about 2–3 minutes per side).
  5. Drain and serve:
Remove fritters and drain on paper towels.
Serve hot — plain or with your favorite dipping sauce (like ranch or spicy mayo).

Tips

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of black pepper or garlic powder to the batter.
  • These taste best fresh and crispy, but you can reheat them in the oven to restore crunch.
