Don’t let the name fool you — Garbage Bread is pure comfort food gold! It’s stuffed with all your favorite flavors (think cheeseburger, pizza, or Philly cheesesteak) wrapped in golden, buttery dough and baked to perfection. Perfect for game day, parties, or an easy weeknight meal, this recipe lets you clean out the fridge and create something absolutely delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (or sausage, or a mix)
  • ½ cup diced onions
  • ½ cup diced bell peppers (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 (13.8 oz) can refrigerated pizza dough or homemade dough
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • Optional fillings: cooked bacon, mushrooms, pepperoni, or jalapeƱos

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Cook the Filling:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onions, and bell peppers until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender. Drain excess grease.
Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Prepare the Dough:
Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (about 10×14 inches).
  4. Add Fillings:
Evenly spread the cooled meat mixture down the center of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle with cheese and any additional fillings (like bacon or pepperoni).
  5. Roll It Up:
Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough up jelly-roll style. Pinch the edges and ends to seal. Place the loaf seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Top and Bake:
Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Cool and Slice:
Let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with marinara, ranch, or cheese sauce for dipping.

Pro Tips:

  • Make it your own! Use leftover taco meat, pulled chicken, or even BBQ beef for fun variations.
  • For a crispier crust, bake directly on a pizza stone.
  • If the ends start browning too fast, cover them loosely with foil.
  • This bread reheats perfectly — just warm slices in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes.
