Cozy Grandma’s Playoff Puffs

Golden, cheesy bites made for sharing

Cozy Grandma’s Playoff Puffs are soft on the inside, lightly crisp on the outside, and packed with comforting flavor. These bite-sized puffs are the kind of snack Grandma would set out during a big game, fresh from the oven and gone in minutes. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or anytime you want an easy crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

2 cups mashed potatoes, well cooled
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup sour cream
1 large egg
¼ cup melted butter
¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons chopped chives or green onions

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, stir the mashed potatoes until smooth and free of lumps. Well-mashed potatoes help create a light, fluffy texture in the puffs.

Add the shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, egg, and melted butter. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is creamy and evenly combined.

Sprinkle in the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gently fold everything together just until a thick, scoopable batter forms. Avoid overmixing so the puffs stay tender.

Fold in the chopped chives or green onions, distributing them evenly throughout the batter for a mild onion flavor.

Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the mixture and place them onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each puff so they can rise and brown properly.

Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the puffs are puffed, lightly golden on top, and set in the center.

Remove from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes. This helps the puffs firm up slightly while staying soft inside.

Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.
