These Cozy Grandma’s Wienerstube Cookies are old-fashioned, lightly spiced cookies inspired by classic European café treats. Soft in the center with gently crisp edges, they’re perfect with a cup of coffee or tea and bring warm, nostalgic flavors to your cookie jar.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
½ cup finely chopped nuts (optional)
Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add wet ingredients
Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Make the dough
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms. Fold in the chopped nuts if using.
Shape the cookies
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly flatten each one.
Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set.
Cool and finish
Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
✨ Tip: These cookies taste even better the next day once the spices have had time to deepen.

In the picture they look dark and like they were sliced from a log. Is that the same recipe?
