Cuppa Cuppa Cake

Cuppa Cuppa Cake is an old-fashioned, Southern-style recipe that could not be easier to make. With equal “cups” of simple ingredients, it comes together in minutes and bakes into a soft, buttery cake that is perfect with coffee or served warm with fruit and cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 stick butter (1/2 cup), melted

Optional additions

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fruit of choice (peaches, blueberries, cherries)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven

Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the stick of butter in an 8×8 baking dish and put it in the oven to melt. Remove the dish once the butter is fully melted.

2. Mix the batter

In a medium bowl combine the self-rising flour, sugar, and milk. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Add vanilla if using.

3. Pour over the melted butter

Slowly pour the batter directly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir. The batter will rise through the butter as it bakes, creating the classic texture.

4. Add fruit (optional)

If using fruit, scatter it evenly across the top of the batter.

5. Bake

Place the dish in the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

6. Cool and serve

Allow the cake to cool briefly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
